Nazz Nadzrul asked: I guess you’ve been searching for the best solution to install Linux operating system on you PlayStation 3 console. Instead of telling you what Linux really is and all that, let’s go ahead with the Linux on PS3 process explanation. By the way, for those who wanted to install Microsoft Windows on PS3 you can do that too, but you must go through these steps first, as you’d only be running windows from Linux Operating System.
It is quite a simple process really, after you’ve backed up all your saved files you can go ahead and format your PlayStation 3 Hard Disk. This can be done easily by going to ‘System Settings’ ten to ‘Format Utility’. You will be asked whether you want to format the hard disk, go ahead and select ‘YES’. Set partition setting to ‘Custom’ as this will allow you to allot 10 gigabytes for the Linux OS.
Next; simply insert Linux installation disk (you can get this online for free). Go to ‘system settings’ then scroll down to ‘Install Other OS’.
You will then be directed to some sort of bluish boot screen. The next couple of steps are guided (depending on the type of Linux you’re installing) At this point your PlayStation controller will stop working so you’ll need USB mouse and keyboard plugged in to do all the navigation.
Note that when the installation is taking place; never unplug anything that is plugged in your console or this will force the installation process to stop. It does take a while to install Linux on your PS3 so you got to be patient, trust me it worth the time. Once Linux is installed, you may remove the CD from the drive. That is about it; and of course this is just a brief explanation of how to install Linux operating system on your PlayStation 3 console.
